Introduction:
A drop net is a drop net right? wrong! This one is collapsible and fits
nicely into any tackle box or rucksack
Review:
We took the Popnet™ to Llandudno Pier, a perfect
test area for the drop net, where the drop from the tip of your
rod to the sea can be anything from 15' to 30' many good fish
have been lost here due to anglers not having a drop net.
The first thing noticed about the net was how easy
it fitted into a rucksack, saving the effort from having to carry
it by hand, a good start already.
The Popnet™ is constructed with a tough flexible
plastic outer ring, that has a memory for when it is folded out
into the fully open position, this is accomplished by twisting
the outer ring inside out and gets the desired rigidness, the
netting is also constructed of strong nylon and unlike some of
the cheaper drop nets on the market, totally crab proof, although
shallower than some of the drop nets on the market, but,
it is designed to 'encase' large fish as they are hauled up from
the water, another plus, is that the 30' of strong nylon rope
is long enough to tackle most piers and sea walls here in the
UK. There are very few 'new' products on the market but this is
certainly new and does exactly what is advertised.
Traditional drop nets are made of rigid steel or
aluminium rings, It was strange to see the outer ring collapse
when hauling up a 3kg weight , but this is an added bonus as the
flexible mouth on this net was designed to collapse inwards and
would prevent any fish from escaping.
Verdict:
A well thought out piece of kit that is a practical
must for the angler that regularly fishes piers and high sea walls.
It really does have a place in most angler's tackle bags or bait
buckets, where it happens to fit very nicely.
